It’s natural for Gloria Zachgo to write stories with Kansas settings. She grew up on a farm in Lincoln County, Kansas, where she attended one of the last one-room schoolhouses in the country. After graduating from Brown Mackie Business School, she married her high school sweetheart.

Living out of state for several years, Gloria and her husband moved back to their Kansas roots. While their children were young, she ran a small business out of their home. When her children left the nest, she pursued a lifelong dream and took various art lessons.

Always wanting to learn new things, she joined a creative writing group in 2006. She soon found she had a passion for writing fictional short stories. She then challenged herself to develop one of her short stories into a novel. Since that time, she’s written four books:

The Rocking Horse
Hush Girl: It’s Only a Dream
Never Waste Tears
Never Waste Dreams

“I love writing about ordinary everyday people and their struggles with what life deals them.”

Gloria Zachgo and her husband currently reside in Wichita, Kansas, where they enjoy being close to family.

Book Excerpt or Article

Rebecca’s Diary … June 12, 1867—Mother is quite distraught that Nathan and I will be going West after we are married. She told me there are still savages in those parts of the country. I think she just wants to scare me so that I won’t want to move so far away from her. She has told Father he needs to speak to Nathan.
